Hayward Bakery and Cheese Shop in Hayward

An ok bakery and deli.Had a special cake order here a few weeks ago. Cake was late and didn't come out looking the best. It was still really tasty and that counts for a lot. Today I tried to buy some donuts but there was a gentleman in line buying out the entire case instead of calling ahead for event catering. All in all it's a decent bakery but Haywards Main Street is a giant tourist trap whose only redeeming quality is a taco shop, unless you're really into high prices and iron-on t-shirt shops.

Frendly Staff

Very disappointed. We have been vacationing up here in this area for 50 years. And we’ve always stopped at this bakery for pies, and bread. We went into the store on Sun June 30th, wanting to purchase some forest fruit pies. They were sold out, which was not an issue. We expected it, since it was peak summer season. We asked the associate behind the counter(a younger gentleman) if we could place an order and pick up at a later date. He said we had to at least give them two days to prepare them. So we could pick them up on Tuesday. Well guess what. It’s Tuesday morning, and we are here to pick up our pies, and the bakery is closed on Tues and Wed. Now why would this associate take an order, knowing they were not open on Tuesday’s. Also, he took our phone number down. So why didn’t someone see this order and not call us, to let us know they were closed. We drove 30 minutes into Hayward, just to pick these up. Absolutely unacceptable customer service.

Since the new ownership this bakery has been very disappointing. I asked for a box for donuts today and a women behind the counter very rudely said no. The breads were sold out before 10:30. This is not the first time we have had a bad experience this year. We try hard to support local businesses . Will no longer frequent this bakery.

Great little bakery. Sugar cookies are fantastic. They have HUGE coffee rolls and also serve Expresso, cappacino and lattes.

Fabulous bakery with friendly staff. It would be better if they didn't whack you with a 4% credit card fee. Their hours can be hit and miss. Make sure you call before you go.

Hayward Bakery made the cake for my wedding. It looked amazing and tasted delicious!!

Huge selection, didn't know what to choose, but so far everything is exceptionally wonderful.

The owner is extremely rude and unprofessional. When a friend, who purchased quite a large number of baked goods from him complained, he not only did nothing to resolve the situation. He was a complete jerk.

I went to the bakery this afternoon and the young staff was cleaning the shelves and I enquired about the bread. She asked me to wait and went about cleaning the shelves. What an attitude! Then I approached a senior staff and she was very helpful. At first I was really turned off by the young girl but the senior lady described the different breads and because of her effort, I bought two loaves.I complimented her that she is a good salesperson. I hope the owners will read my comments and make sure that customers don't get turned away.

Our family has been coming to Hayward on vacation for a collaborative 70+ years... 3 generations. The bakery was always one of our first stops and something we all looked foward to. Since the new owners took over things have DRASTICALLY changed... specifically the customer service. They don’t take orders for donuts on the weekend because they are “short staffed”. They only accept cash or checks now. They are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and close at 4:00... in the summer... in a vacation town. They run out of donuts because they don’t make enough. They have no website, email, fax to contact them and when you call it goes to voicemail and they call you back whenever they want AND are RUDE. It looks to me like making THEE most money they can at the cost of customer service is what they are about now... sad.

Great bread. Wish we had this at home. We have been going there for 15 years.

Delicious baked goods at a reasonable price. Excellent service and friendly staff. This place has fresh made donuts, pastries, breads, soups and other lunch foods. There is no inside seating.

Best San Francisco sourdough bread ever. Have food allergies and this bread was amazing! Couldn’t stop eating it! The staff is amazing and went out of their way to help me. A customer for life! Thank you!!!

Unbelievable almond horns!! I got one warm from the oven once....it was beyond an experience of pure taste bud joy!!!! Yum!! Wonderful selection and everything is so good!!!

We received a wedding cake from Firehouse bakery. It was very delicious but had two problems. One was they forgot one tier was supposed to be a different flavor, but remembered in time to bake a whole other tier to correct it with no extra charge, so they did fix this mistake. The other was the decoration was not really up to my expectations. She did say she had never done birch tree style before, but I wish she would have recommended another style if she wasn't confident in her ability to pull the birch off. I have included the cake I was hoping it to look like and what ours looked like. Very good cake, sub-par decorating.

Oh my goodness I love this place. I feel like family here. I come all the time when I am in town and they always remember me and what I want. The fresh bread. The sweet service, and kind warm welcome makes anyone want bread. Thank you ladies for the beautiful kind service you give to me. God bless you the Turkey lady lol👍

Such great items that they're almost always sold out of the good stuff before I have the chance to grab some. But chocolate croissants, soft cookies, doughnuts and crusty bread are AWESOME! Just get there early enough to actually get some... My favorite: their Onion rye bread. Hmmm!

Was told they sold Wisconsin cheese yes they do but only a select few. Disappointed my sis wanted to take some home with her nothing to choose from😩

If I could give this bakery no stars, I would. I went in to buy a pie for dinner guests. There were two - one cherry and one blueberry. After specifically asking what kind of cherries were in the cherry pie, and upon being told they were sour cherries, I purchased the cherry pie. I also bought a chocolate chip cookie to eat. Upon leaving town, I ate the cookie. It was the worst chocolate chip cookie I have ever tasted. Absolutely no flavor at all. I didn't even finish it. When I cut into the pie that evening, I discovered it was a blueberry pie, not cherry. Okay, so I had no choice but to serve it and thought it was probably going to be just as good, so serve it I did. We all took one bite and all commented at how disappointing it was. It tasted like that old Wilderness pie filling out of a can. No one even ate their whole piece. What a waste of 18.00! I cannot believe that place is even called a bakery.

The minute you open their door the smell of fresh bakery abounds your senses. Wonderful selection of all types of bakery. Cranberry Walnut bread is my husbands fav...........Very nice staff and knowledgeable of what they are selling. Two thumbs up

Not sure how they can run a bakery and run out by sometime in the morning. Really good when you get there before all the bakery is gone. Its summer, bake more!

My tastes buds were overly satisfied! I tried just about every pastries they have on the shelf and was very satisfied! They were not overwhelmingly sweet, they are fresh and just perfect! The young lady that assisted us was friendly- I think she was overwhelmed because I ordered one of each pastry on display.. but she managed and was happy to assist us again the following day. Definitely a “must go to“ bakery when visiting Hayward Wisconsin!

I was in town on a trip and stopped in on Friday, April 2nd. I saw that they had Lamb cakes for Easter and thought how cute for my grandkids. I cannot tell you how embarrassed I was to serve this cake to my friends and family! The frosting was hard, the cake was stale all this for the bargain price of $15.00. They should be ashamed of themselves for selling this type of product. I'm sure the owner would not want their name put on anything this bad!

I live locally and have bought alot of stuff from this bakery. I called to hold some buns over the phone and even offered to pay for them and pick them up at 3pm today. I called at 1:30pm. The young lady asked someone and they said no because it was the last w packages of buns. Really?? I reiterated it to her again thinking she misunderstood me and she refused to ask the woman again. I never leave negative reviews, but this was pretty ridiculous.

Great variety of baked goods! They have 99 Cent loafs of bread. Service was a bit slow today but it's not always like that.

Love everything I have ever gotten here, but our favorite is the cinnamon bread. Call ahead to make sure they still have a load before driving into town, as they bake a limited quantity and during tourism season, the bread goes fast. Donuts and cookies are excellent too!

The Rustic Sourdough bread has been my favorite bread of all time and a rare treat since I was a young kid. The English toffee cookies are also to die for!
